3/31/2024 0 Comments Jewels of cleopatraIn addition to producing several pieces of jewelry inspired by Taylor’s collection over the years, Bulgari is buying back some of her most famous pieces for its permanent Heritage Collection, several of which will be displayed during the Cannes festival, along with many of the costumes from “Cleopatra.” (Taylor was reported to have had 65 costume changes, and virtually all of the jewelry she wore in the movie was costume jewelry, including the serpent armband reminiscent of the Bulgari motif.) “Cleopatra” - and the Taylor-Burton scandal that became every bit as infamous - is also a rich and somewhat mysterious slice of jewelry history. A half-century later, this “Cleopatra” is still the most misunderstood - albeit somewhat long-winded and over-dressed - gal in Hollywood. “Cleopatra,” the 1963 film that nearly bankrupted 20th Century Fox and ignited the Elizabeth Taylor-Richard Burton firestorm, a love affair draped in jewels and scandal, is being shown in a restored version at the Cannes International Film Festival this month.įrom there it will go on to open at more than 200 cinemas worldwide May 22 before being released in a special-edition Blu-ray on May 28.
